So overall 2020 has been kind of a crapshoot for most of us. It is the year that just keeps giving…crap. I’ve been thinking about all the things people are posting on social media platforms and all the things we have to hate 2020. But do I have to end the year thinking of all the bad that 2020 brought? No way! There have been plenty of great things 2020 has brought.
It brought more time with my littles. It brought me new memories that never would have been made. Creative trip I never would have made. More time outside. Life has slowed down some and I have been able to appreciate so many things.
With a thankful heart in mind, I decided I will do a 30 days of thankful with my kids. It’s never too early to teach them to be thankful in the midst of chaos. We will share something every evening that we are thankful for. We will also recycle those used toilet paper rolls by making toilet paper roll turkeys that list some of the things we are thankful for. I’m thinking I will also add some popsicle sticks to the turkey and if we think of something we would like to add, we can take a popsicle stick out and write it down! I thought this was a grand, new, original idea…turns out Pinterest has plenty of toilet paper roll turkeys! Guess I’m not the only one with the thought afterall.
We really started our thankfulness last month with our Boo baskets. We also made adult versions of the Boo baskets but I forgot to take a picture of them. In place of Boo baskets we did Blessed and Thankful baskets that we gave to some of our neighbors just expressing how thankful we were that they are our neighbors and how blessed we are by them. I LOVE giving to others. I love seeing smiles on other people’s faces when they receive something totally unexpected.
I encourage you to be thankful for the things you have and try to find the blessings 2020 has brought you! Let’s all start teaching our kiddos to be thankful and to give graciously to bless others! Share pictures of things you and/or your kiddos do to show thankfulness or how you are blessing others!
Below are links to a few fun things I found on Amazon. If you click on and purchase from the links below, I make a commission at no additional charge to you. See my disclaimer page for more info. There’s a cute shirt! Don’t want to cut out your own turkey feathers or don’t have any used TP rolls? There’s an activity on Amazon so you can still do the same without any cutting on your part. There are also pinecone turkeys you can make. Mad libs anyone?!!? I LOVED those things when I was growing up! I included a Fall Bingo game. I love playing games the whole family can enjoy. My kids LOVE Pete the Cat books so I included a Pete the Cat First Thanksgiving book also. Reading is so great for literacy skills.
