Holiday Gift Guide, Kids 6 and Under

I have 4 kids age 6 and under. This doesn’t make me an expert in what they want, but I do know what they ask for. If your kids are like mine though, what they want changes daily. Last year I ordered all the gifts ahead of time. No last minute shopping for me! Christmas morning my daughter wakes up and says, “Mama I wonder if Santa brought me the camera I want.” Y’all, never once had she mentioned she wanted a camera. So Santa did not deliver her much anticipated camera. I explained to her that she never asked for a camera so Santa didn’t know she wanted a camera.

Just a side note, Santa does NOT bring big, expensive gifts. Not all families can afford expensive gifts so Mama and Daddy are the ones that bring the expensive gifts. If Santa brings one of my kids an expensive gift and they are telling their friends about said gift and one of the friends didn’t get an expensive gift from Santa, they may wonder why Santa didn’t think they deserved such a big gift. They may be left feeling sad and upset. Maybe I’m overthinking it and maybe no child wonders that, but I can’t stand the thought of a child thinking they were less because Santa didn’t bring them an expensive gift. Besides, who wants Santa to get the credit for those expensive gifts?!!? We also do the 5 gift rule: Something they want, something they need, something to read, something to wear, something to do. We do an additional family gift that is usually a game. I am including links to the products on Amazon. As an Amazon associate I will make a commission if you click the link and make a purchase at no additional cost to you!

Without further ado, here goes nothing! I’m going to start with some ideas for family games! My kids have been asking for the game Throw Throw Burrito . I’m not exactly sure how this game works to be honest, but the 2 oldest kiddos have been asking for it, so Santa is bringing it as a family game this year! They think Greedy Granny looks hilarious as well. Again, not a game I know much about, but they seem to really want it. When we were little, we played games like Hasbro Hi Ho! Cherry-O and Hasbro Gaming Candy Land Kingdom Of Sweet Adventures or Chutes and Ladders. One of my favorite memories is playing The Game of Life! I remember my Dad ending up with so many “kids” they didn’t fit in his car. It was hilarious and so true to our actual life! My parents had 7 kids! The Game of Life is probably a little too advanced for 6 and under, but I sure do have some fond memories of that game! A game that would be good for younger kids is Hasbro Crocodile Dentist. The object of the game is to see who can push the teeth without getting their hand “eaten” by the crocodile. I know The Mandalorian is a popular show right now. I remember playing the game Operation Electronic Board Game. Now Amazon has Hasbro Gaming Operation Game: Star Wars The Mandalorian Edition Board Game for Kids. They also have an Operation Game: Star Wars Edition.

If your family isn’t into board games, puzzles are a great alternative and build great skills! It requires thinking and fine motor skills! You could use the Wooden Alphabet Puzzle to learn ABCs and even work on sounds at the same time! I really love Melissa and Doug puzzles. They tend to hold together well in my experience. They are currently offering a bundle Melissa & Doug Disney Peg Puzzle Bundle-Alphabet, Numbers, Shapes & Colors. They also have Melissa & Doug Farm Animals Jumbo Knob Wooden Puzzle. The jumbo puzzle pieces with the knob are good for younger kiddos. It’s a little easier for them to move the pieces around. Amazon also carries Melissa & Doug Farm Animals Sound Puzzle. Working on spelling? Try this Melissa & Doug See & Spell. It’s a puzzle that has the words spelled out and your child finds the letters to spell the word and places the letters in the correct spot! Melissa and Doug also has floor puzzles. My 4 and 6 year old love to pull their floor puzzles out and work on them independently! We have and love the Underwater Floor Puzzle (48 pc) and the Dinosaurs Floor Puzzle (48 pc). I ordered the Fairy Tale Castle Floor Puzzle for my daughter for Christmas! I know she will love it. Amazon also carries the following floor puzzles from Melissa and Doug: Building Site Floor Puzzle – 48 Pieces, Traffic Jam Floor Puzzle, U.S.A. 51pc Floor Puzzle, Rainforest Floor Puzzle, Safari Social Floor Puzzle, Endangered Species Floor Puzzle, and sooooo many more. I seriously love the Melissa and Doug puzzles. Even their floor puzzles are made of a good thick paper material that hold up well! It takes a bit for our dog to chew them up. Usually we can catch her and get them out of her mouth before too much damage has been done!

If you prefer more Montessori type toys, Amazon can help you find some of those too! With the Montessori Shape Size Sorting Puzzle Carrots Harvest, your kiddo sorts the carrots by size and shape to fit them in the carrot holes. Amazon also has this Rainbow stacking game Wooden Rainbow Stacking Game. Another great idea is this Screw Driver Board. There is also this set: Stacking Peg Board Set Toy | JUMBO PACK .

Know a kiddo that likes to climb? How about this beauty? Wooden Climbing Triangle Ladder. Or this for a climber? Geometric Dome Climber A kid that likes to play The Floor is Lava with all your pillows? (Just me?!!?) What about this to help them play without having to drag the pillows to the ground? What about a kitchen? This one, Mud Kitchen XL Outdoor Water, Sand and Mud Play, looks like it could be fun! Speaking of sand, my kids LOVE kinetic sand and Amazon has this Kinetic Sand, 3lbs Beach Sand. We have used this brand in blue.
